I have the honour to transmit for

your consideration the enclosed copy of a programme of

the proposed import of subsidiary coin into this Colony

during the current year, which has been drawn up by the

Chief Manager of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking

Corporation, and which the Colonial Treasurer has advis-

ed should be carried out.

2.

If you approve this programme. and

if the mints in the United Kingdom are unable to issue

the coins, I have further the honour to request you to

be good enough to make the necessary arrangements for

minting the subsidiary coin in India.

3.

Pending your reply, I have advised

the Chief Manager of the steps which I have taken, in

order that the Agency of the Hongkong and Shanghai

Banking Corporation in Calcutta may be ready to pur-

chase Silver for the mint and meet all bills presented
